The Rhymer's Daughter
This is book 2 in the Leopard's Bane series. The end of book 1 (The Poisoned Garden) saw the hero, Peglar, tricked by his half-brother and sister, disowned by his family and exiled from his home city. At this time he has nothing, and the story continues with him protected by Yalka, a poor girl who befriended him in book 1. However, there's a price on his head and he can't stay with her. He leaves to escape his pursuers and to work out how he can return, clear his name and reclaim his inheritance. He has multiple adventures, all the time hiding his identity in case someone apprehends him for the reward.
Meanwhile Yalka, whose home was destroyed in book 1, settles down to a new life with Syramos, her grandfather. Syramos is a rhymer, which is a seer who when in a trance is able to foresee the future. It soon becomes clear that she possesses the same gifts, and she is able to see that Peglar is in danger. She and Syramos set out to offer help, but before they can reunite Yalka and Peglar face separate challenges.
