Pam Henry has been writing stories for children since she was a young girl. Her writing is aimed mainly at the middle-grade age range, say 8-11 years old, but she also likes to write short stories and picture books for younger readers.

With her three children grown and flown, she lives in Wiltshire with her husband and their young Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Bowie, named after the famous David. Both sides of the family have their roots in Ireland, so when a publisher in Dublin was asking for children’s stories of Irish interest, Pam began to do a bit of research.

Her current work project is a series of four books within her favourite genre. The Four Treasures Series was not just written, it was engineered to be of particular interest to reluctant readers. She has worked long and hard to tailor the books so that they are each within a similar word count, the chapters are short, the stories are fast-moving, so there’s no excuse for the reader to stop before the end.

Now, magically, the first book, A Saucer Full of Secrets, is a finalist in The Page Turner Awards 2023 for both the Book Award and Best Cover. The final three books which complete the series, The Solas Dragon, The Lost Steps and The Ninth Rune are in the Writing Award contest.

Pam’s Philosophy: If you can capture a kid’s imagination enough for them to read a whole book, you might have a chance of getting them to read another.
